Biennale Art 2022 – The French Pavilion welcomes you

The 59th International Art Exhibition, taking place from the 23rd of April to the 27th of November 2022, is titled “Il latte dei sogni – The Milk of Dreams“.

The exhibition, as the curator Cecilia Alemani tells us, “takes its name from a book by the surrealist artist Leonora Carrington (1917-2011), who, during the 50s in Mexico, imagined and illustrated mysterious tales (…) Carrington’s stories create a free world, full of possibilities, but also the allegory of a century which dictates an unbearable pressure on identity.”

Les rêves n’ont pas de titre / Dreams have no titles / I sogni non hanno titoli – The French Pavilion welcomes you

In this context France is represented by Zineb Sedira, an artist with a multiple identity, whose life and artistic path evolve and revolve around the crossroad of three countries: France, where she was born and grew up, Algeria, the country of origin of her parents, and England, the country where she lives.

Zineb Sedira presents a cinematographic installation which ponders on the desire, which animated the 60s and 70s, to make a type of cinema marked by militancy and aimed at testifying the previously built bonds of cultural solidarity between the two shores of the Mediterranean Sea.

The guests of Casa Flora, Hotel Flora and Novecento visiting the Biennale will be able to immerse themselves in the cinematographic set created for the French Pavilion and watch the movie – the main work – which was filmed in that same set.

Presenting the postcard Support [Inside] Venice Initiative visitors will benefit from a personal guide in the French Pavilion organised by ARTER, a production agency for artistic and cultural events, appointed to manage the Pavilion by the Institut français, the public establishment in charge of France’s international cultural activities.

Inside Venice Bottles

We thank Arter for its commitment in reducing the use of plastic during an event of such large capacity like that of the Biennale. A Plastic Free approach promotes the employment of reusable bottles for the collaborators of the Pavilion involved in this edition.

We have been supporting this initiative as it allows Casa Flora, Hotel Flora and Novecento to spare up to 36.000 plastic bottles per year. We are extremely pleased that other activities have made the same choice we have and wish to adopt more sustainable practices to safeguard the environment of this city.
