Scattered here and there, many campi and campielli embellish the city, but people often wonder whether the water pouring from their fountains is drinkable or not. The fountains in Venice are roughly 200, for the most part active and functioning. The water is fresh and of great quality, as it comes from very deep swells.
The project Venice Plastic Free came to life with the intention of reducing plastic waste. In the Inside Venice Map you can find a guide to our favourite places to visit in the city and the fountains from which you can fill your reusable bottles.

Our challenge is to reduce waste production in order to limit environmental impact, which is already too high on such a touristic and fragile city as ours. Keep Venice clean by remembering to bring your own reusable bottle when you go out. And well, if you do not have one, here is the good news: Inside Venice’s commitment to sustainability renovates itself this year through an enthusiastic collaboration with Ocean Bottle!
Ocean Bottle is a B-Corp certified social impact enterprise, working to protect the Ocean from plastic pollution. They fund plastic collection in impoverished coastal areas in Brazil, Haiti, Indonesia and many more countries with high levels of plastic pollution, providing work opportunities and support for the local communities. The plastic recovered from coastal areas is brought to sorting centres By the local plastic collectors who can exchange plastic for the things that they and their families need, such as money, healthcare, education and groceries. The collected material is then recycled and transformed into new products.
Two paths crossing each other by chance and two similar points of view have brought together our strengths in order to design a new, stainless steel recyclable bottle in three different colours and with a double opening.
On one side the big commitment of Ocean Bottle to cleaning the oceans’ coasts, on the other our small, even though significant, desire to launch a “message in the bottle” to the many guests that visit our city. It is important to sensibilize, to inform, and most of all employ in the smartest way all the resources at our disposal. And why not, we wish for commitment to be an example for Venice.
For now, our water bottle can be found at Hotel Flora, Novecento and Casa Flora: but stay tuned on these screens for interesting news!
