Open to the public since last March 24, Ocean Space is a collaborative platform for change, an environmental campaign focused on oceans that will promote transdisciplinary research and collective initiatives.
Commissioned by TBA21-Academy, Ocean Space restores the Church of San Lorenzo, which has been closed to the public for over hundred years, reintegrating this historic building with a rough and unfinished facade into the cultural fabric of Venice.
After the inauguration with Joan Jonas’ site-specific multimedia installation “Moving Off the Land II”, open until the end of September, two more years of interior design with the architect Andrés Jaque of the Office for Political Innovation are planned.
Ocean Space has found in Venice his natural surrounding: a choice strongly desired by the founder of TBA21-Academy Francesca Thyssen-Bornemisza, for its historical sailoring tradition and its fragile environmental balance. Ocean Space is a common good, open to people and organizations from all over the world to rethink a completely different future for the Planet Earth and our oceans.
