Hidden among the calli and campielli (little squares), between Campo San Polo and Rialto market, the restaurant Antiche Carampane stands out for its character and quality.
Remember their diktat “No pizza, no Lasagne, no Touristic Menu”. This is one of the few restaurants that has not given in to the hit and run tourism and therefore it is still chosen by gourmet Venetians who also enjoy its relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
The menu is excellent from the starters to the dessert and consists of the freshest fish and vegetables directly from the lagoon: raw fish, tagliolini with granseola (spider crab), fried fish, rumble fish filet with artichokes from the island of S. Erasmo are just some of the regular dishes on the menu.
A top quality wine cellar, with an accurate selection of labels (including organic wine labels), homemade cakes and pastries worthy of their names, including the Pavlova cake which deserves a special mention.
During international events, you might find yourself sitting next to stars, celebrities or show business people. The name of the restaurant and its location recall curious stories to tell.
Booking is highly recommended and in the summer, you can eat outside in a quiet and shady place.
