One of our favourite restaurants in the San Marco sestiere, but that’s not all!
Rosa Rossa has been in Calle de la Mandola since 1985. It offers quality, attention to detail and familiarity. Two brothers and their family’s dream brought to life this intimate and contemporary place in the heart of the city.
After decades of experience and attention to tradition, the management has passed to the following generation, and that is in the hands of the young, brilliant chef Gianamarco who, along with his sister Rebecca and cousin Andreina, and thanks to their innovative point of view, has revisited and renewed Rosa Rossa’s culinary format: they handle traditional cuisine with extreme care and add to it a veil of innovation with new combinations of tastes.
At the core of Rosa Rossa’s cuisine there is without a doubt the attachment and love for Venice, which Gianmarco loves to admire at dawn from the pillars of Rialto’s historical fish market; the sanctuary of every respectable restaurateur. Here the chef buys a variety of the catch of the day, following his trusted fisherman’s advice: from Mazara grey shrimp to sea bass, from lagoon clams to local octopus, from turbot to St. Peter’s fish.
Another essential step takes place at the fruit and vegetable stalls of Rialto, where the chef finds the best fruits and vegetables of the season amidst shapes and colours that create a unique setting, immersed in an atmosphere that takes you back to different times.
Rosa Rossa‘s kitchen is therefore always offering local and zero-mile products, because this is how it wants to support the historic activities of the centre and serve customers dishes that are always fresh, seasonal and genuine.
Currently their offer consists of three tasting menu, a compromise between simple homemade dishes and fine-dining: “Adriatico”, inspired by Venetian tradition; “Pascolo”, offering a variety of local meats; “Non solo orto”, which transports customers among local crops with a selection of seasonal vegetarian products. Furthermore, Rosa Rossa also offers a menu à la carte where the customer can let their fantasy guide them through pasture meats, raw and marinated fish, carpaccio and low temperature cooking, and a variety of fresh and dried pasta. Of course, there are always new offers with the catch of the day and other delicacies from the Adriatic Sea and the lagoon itself.
And it is impossible to forget the pizzeria, which stands out for its care and determination in offering excellent dough, both classical and with alternative kinds of wheat, extremely digestible and fragrant, and also unique in their combinations, both courageous and delicate.
The restaurant’s intimate and uniquely contemporary design is distinguished by its exposed walls and soft lighting, which make it a truly special location. The restaurant is secluded between Calle de la Mandola, where the main entrance can be glimpsed, and Rio Terà dei Assassini, where a few outdoor tables are available instead, directly overlooking the quiet calle.
